Community African Network received funding from Hackney and City CCG to pilot a new approach to increase awareness of cervical cancer and the uptake of cervical screening by targeting women that identify as South Asian and 'Other' ethnicities that have the lowest uptake rates by recorded ethnicity in City and Hackney through targeted outreach and working with GP surgeries in low uptake areas in Hackney. The target population are women between the ages of 25 and 49 years old who identify as ‘South Asian’ and ‘Other’ ethnicity and have not completed their last cervical screen.
The project is aimed to identify the reasons women are currently declining to participate or not attending that are eligible for cervical cancer screening between the ages of 25 and 49 that identify as South Asian and ‘Other’. Increase overall uptake of cervical screening by targeting women that identify as South Asian and ‘Other’ ethnicities that have the lowest uptake rates by recorded ethnicity in City and Hackney. To encourage these women to participate in the screening programme, and if an obstacle to participation is identified, able to code and subsequently invite to a tailor intervention based on reasons for their non-engagement with the screening programme.
